June 2011,

QBsoft Solutions has completed the installation of a large system for the Broadmead Care Society (Victoria, British Columbia).  The installation included an existing EZcall dementia monitoring system that was interfacing a Dukane StaffCall Pro nurse call system with a Motorola Pocket Paging System and Spectralink phones.

When the contractors needed to upgrade the nurse call, telephone and pocket paging system with fully integrated instant alarm messaging, EZcall Enterprise was the obvious choice.  The older analog pocket paging system was upgraded to an Ekahau RTLS Server with Ekahau Wi-Fi badge tags to be used as staff duress devices and for text messaging.

The L-Comm distributed antenna system was replaced with a vast network of Cisco wireless access points and the older telephone system upgraded to a Cisco CallManager with Wi-Fi Cisco telephones.

The facility’s nurse call systems included the StaffCall Pro nurse call system used for dementia monitoring in a small ward, as well as several other Rauland-Borg Responder 3000 systems.  All of the nurse call systems were upgraded to newer Rauland-Borg Responder 4000 networked systems.  QBsoft Solutions was able to maintain the dementia monitoring sensors and have them operate in tandem with the new Responder 4000 nurse call system in the Broadmead Care Society’s dementia wing.

QBsoft Solutions was instrumental in providing all of the facility’s integration as well as staff education and orientation documentation.  The goal from the Broadmead Care Society was to create an SRCS (Silent Resident Call System) that would provide their residents with a more ‘home-like’ environment to live in.  No nurse call dome lights were installed and no nurse consoles or tone stations were used in tee installation.  All staff alarms were to be distributed to the appropriate care staff on Ekahau badge tag displays and/or Cisco wireless VoIP telephones.

The upgrade EZcall integration platform provided all of the necessary integration by monitoring the nurse call and dementia monitoring sensors through the Responder 4000 nurse call system, and routing alarms to Ekahau badge tags and Cisco phones as required.

The EZcall server included the addition of a second server (The WAC Web Access Client), which was deployed on a vmWare Virtual machine.  The new WAC server allowed all remote client applications to be completely eliminated.  Managers simply login using their standard desktop web browser to make assignment alterations, review dementia profiles, or view history report information.  Care staff can also take advantage of the web browser interface by logging in to view real-time active alarms, or manually send instant text messages to other staff mobile badge tags or Cisco phones.
